The 2017 A. L. Polglase Visiting Professorship in Colorectal Surgery
Professor David Larson was this year’s recipient of the AL Polglase Visiting Professor in Colorectal Surgery at Cabrini. David holds the Chair of Colorectal Surgery at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester USA. Professor Larson’s visit was over several days from Sunday 12 November to Tuesday 14 November 2017, and during this time his schedule included meeting with numerous medical, nursing and allied health staff who work with colorectal patients.
During his visit, David presented two lectures, with the first to the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand entitled ‘Pushing the limits of minimally invasive surgery and robotics’, and then secondly a public lecture that explored ‘The Search for Surgical Perfection’.
Also during his visit, Professor Larson imparted valuable insight and knowledge to Victorian surgical trainees, and attended several surgical demonstrations provided by departmental members Mr Chip Farmer and Mr Peter Carne.
Overall Professor Larson’s visit was an extremely successful one, making a great contribution to the ongoing professional development of Cabrini’s colorectal surgeons and a positive forum for the productive exchange of cutting edge bowel cancer research and treatment.
